The Rescue boat and Fast rescue boat are almost similar in terms of operation but the later will have few additional/different requirements as per SOLAS.
Rescue Boat Different Construction:
GRP rescue boats may be either of rigid or inflated construction or a combination of both and shall not be less than 3,8 m and not more than 8,5 m in length.
Fast rescue boats shall have a hull length of not less than 6,0 m and not more than 8,5 m, including inflated structures or fixed fenders.
Rescue Boat Different Speed:
Using its driving power the rescue boat and solas fast rescue boat has to reach the following speeds
Rescue Boat: Manoeuvring speed of at least 6 kn and maintaining that speed for a period of at least 4 hours.
Fast Rescue Boat: Manoeuvring at a speed of at least 20 kn in calm water with a crew of 3 persons and maintaining that speed for at least 4 hours. A speed of at least 8 kn with a full complement of persons and equipment.
