Function of Oxygen sensor
The function of the oxygen sensor is to measure the information of whether there is excess oxygen in the exhaust gas after combustion of the engine, that is, the oxygen content, and convert the oxygen content into a voltage signal and transmit it to the engine computer, so that the engine can achieve closed-loop control with excess air factor as the goal; Ensure that the three-way catalytic converter has the maximum conversion efficiency for the three pollutants of hydrocarbon (HC), carbon monoxide (CO) and nitrogen oxides (NOX) in the exhaust gas, and maximizes the conversion and purification of pollutants.
Simply put, the oxygen sensor is a detection tool to detect whether the vehicle exhaust emissions exceed the standard.
The purpose of oxygen sensor is to calculate if there are extra oxygen in the exhaust gas. It translate the oxygen percentage from a voltage signal to ECU. ECU will then complete it control circle aiming for 0% oxygen in the exhaust gas. This way to ensure three-way catalytic converter will only treat with HC, CO and NOx.
