The purpose of oxygen sensor is to calculate if there are extra oxygen in the exhaust gas. It translate the oxygen percentage from a voltage signal to ECU. ECU will then complete it control circle aiming for 0% oxygen in the exhaust gas. This way to ensure three-way catalytic converter will only treat with HC, CO and NOx. To ensure the engine is working with perfect air fuel ratio, we need to detect the oxygen percentage in the exhaust gas. Therefore oxygen sensor is in used to collect the data and transfer them to ECU for further control of air intake and fuel spay. The combustion would be most powerful at the perfect 14.7:1 air fuel ratio.
