What is a tire inflator?
A tire inflator is a specific type of air compressor that is specialized for tires. As with air compressors, tire inflators function by converting electric energy into potential energy which is then stored as pressurized air.
A tyre inflator can be a great alternative to large and cumbersome compressors. The tyre inflator plugs into a 12V power outlet and allows you to restore the desired tyre pressure. Furthermore, some tyre inflators include features like a digital readout, flashlight, and attachments.
What are the types of tyre inflator?
There are two core types of inflator:
- Pre-set - where the operator sets the pressure on the unit then the inflator recognises when the set level is reached.
- Manual - where the operator determines both the required pressure and when the final pressure is reached.
What is the difference between a tire inflator and an air pump?
There's not much difference between the two. A tire inflator does just that; inflate tires. On the other hand, air compressors are more versatile as they can be used at home. Typically, tire inflators don't deal with pressures higher than 120 PSI, while air compressors can handle pressures as high as 300 PSI.
