The A4988 is a complete microstep motor driver with built-in converter for easy operation. The product can operate bipolar stepper motor in full, half, 14th, 18th and 116th step modes. The output drive performance can reach 16V and ± 1a. Typically used with 12V, the A4988 includes a fixed off-time current regulator that operates in slow or mixed decay modes. The converter is the key to the easy implementation of the A4988. As long as the"Step" input in the input of a pulse, you can drive the motor to produce micro-step. There is no need for phase order tables, high frequency control lines or complex interface programming. The A4988 interface is ideal for applications where complex microprocessors are unavailable or overloaded.
The chopper control in the A4988 automatically selects the current decay mode (slow or mixed) for microstepping operation. In the hybrid decay mode, the device is initially set to decay rapidly during a partial fixed downtime and then decay slowly for the remainder of the downtime. The hybrid attenuating current control scheme reduces audible motor noise, increases step rate, and reduces power consumption. An internal synchronous rectifier control circuit is provided to improve power consumption during pulse width modulation (PWM) operation. Internal circuit protection includes: overheat shutdown with hysteresis, under-voltage locking (UVLO) , and cross-current protection. No special electrification is required.
A4988 uses surface mount QFN package (ES) , size is 5mm × 5mm, nominal overall package height is 0.90 mm, and with exposed heat sink plate to enhance heat dissipation function. The package is a lead-free package (suffix-t) , featuring a foggy tin-plated lead frame
